Here’s a collection of various 8-bit and retro pixels wallpapers, several of which feature the world’s most recognized Nintendo protagonist: Super Mario. Many of these 8-bit inspired backgrounds look quite nice as homescreen wallpapers on Android phones. Bearded Super Mario, wooden Mario, and this platform are my personal favorites.

Karoshi was previously only available as a Flash game for PCs, and as such, it has received quite a lot of praise. One of my favorite magazines, Wired, had Karoshi Suicide Salaryman on its list of the top 5 PC games in 2008. Since yesterday, we can now enjoy this beautifully offbeat platform puzzle title [...]

Google has just released a new app in the Market called Androidify that lets you build your own custom Androids. Via a surprisingly convenient interface, you can change your Android’s proportions; give it accessories, different hairstyles and beards, and the clothing of your choice. There’s a The Sims/play dress up appeal to the app, and [...]

Android is a Linux-based operating system, and in Linux, there is something called root access. When you root your Android phone, you will get superuser access. It’s sort of like a special user account for system administration. With root access, you have complete control over your phone’s operating system. It will let you install lots [...]

Every time I’ve flashed a vanilla Android ROM on my HTC Desire, there hasn’t been a picture for “Me” in the native Messaging app. In other words, the little contact photo box next to my own messages in conversation lists has always been gray. Even though I had set a contact picture in Gmail and [...]

These two concept devices appeared during or shortly after CES in early January 2011, and are somewhat old news by now, but I wanted to share them nonetheless. Many promising concept devices never materialize, because financiers couldn’t be found, the projects weren’t deemed commercially viable, or because the designs were too far ahead of current [...]

It can be fun to check out the wallpapers that come preloaded on various new Android handsets. These are the official wallpapers from LG’s latest Android flagship device: the Tegra 2 touting Optimus 2X. There are some nice backgrounds in this collection, and a few that testify to the dual-core Tegra chip that powers the [...]

The single most common question TechCredo gets is easily “what’s the name of that awesome clock widget?” The clock people ask about is featured in several of the live wallpaper demo videos and in some of the Android screen shots on TechCredo. I try to leave a reply whenever the question is asked, but now [...]

One of the main benefits with having root access on an Android device with a limited amount of internal storage such as the HTC Desire, is support for A2SD+. Of course, with root access, you also gain full control over your phone, can install a bunch of great apps only available to root users, and [...]

This is probably a rare issue, but sometimes when I’ve copied a set of wallpapers to the SD card on my HTC Desire, the Gallery app simply refuses to update itself and reflect the changes. It can be mildly frustrating, and even a reboot won’t help or clearing the cache of the Gallery. You can [...]
