The xda-developers forum is just about the best and most active site for Windows Mobile discussions, solutions, development, hacking and customization. One of the main elements of the XDA is the ROM development sections. If you’re not familiar with ROMs, it’s essentially the read-only part of your device occupied by the operating system (the firmware): in this case obviously Windows Mobile. For example, there are ROMs that basically turn the Xperia into an HTC Touch HD, or a HTC Touch Pro2 (before it is even publically released), and blends the two – the best of both world’s, with loads of performance tweaks and enhancements from people that really know what they’re doing. Sounds good, right? It is.
Even though XDA started out as a developer forum, it’s grown into being as much a forum for ordinary users of HTC devices. Still, one could argue that the XDA primarily is intended for those who really want to understand how their phones work, and some senior members may be a bit reluctant towards people who just reap all the benefits without contributing to the community – and justly so. Here is a good post regarding that. I am in no position to preach, but the main rule is probably to thoroughly search the forum before asking a question – your inquiry has most likely both been asked and answered already. The following acronyms generally also apply, I guess: STFW, JFGI, RTFM etc.
Since the X1 is my current WinMo device, some of these XDA threads will be Xperia related or specific. But the better part will also apply to any WM 6.1 or 6.5 powered phone, especially if it has a WVGA resolution.
